The History of AMITA Co., Ltd.

1932 Shintaro Amita became a member of the Trading Business Association in Kobe and began merchandising damascene.
1941 The business suspended due to the Second World War.
1946 Resumed the business in Kyoto as Amita Damascene Factory.
1947 Reorganized Amita Damascene Factory to Amita Damascene Co., Ltd. and Shintaro Amita became the first president.
1952 Based on the cabinet order of "Technician/Craftsmen Training " Amita Damascene Craftsmen Training School was established.
By the Ministry of Finance, Amita Damascene Co., Ltd. was designated as an export retail shop (duty-free shop).
1954 By the Ministry of Finance, Amita Damascene Co., Ltd. was authorized conduct money exchange business.
1955 Amita Damascene Co., Ltd renamed to Amita Trading Co., Ltd.
1956 Amita Trading Co., Ltd. changed the description of "Amita" in Chinese character to Katakana.
1960 The production department moved the damascene manufactory in East part(Nishikyo Ward) of Kyoto city.
1966 Amita Trading Co., Ltd. renamed to Amita Jewelry Co., Ltd.
1967 Kyoto Handicraft Center was constructed and the headquarter was moved in.
1969 New Takano manufactory in Kyoto city completed.
1971 Restaurant Grill Craft opened.
1975 Opened a shop in New Miyako Hotel.
1976 Production department became independent as Amita Metalwork Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (Merged with AMITA Co., Ltd. in 1981 and became independent again in 2005. )
1978 AMITA Jewelry renamed as AMITA Co., Ltd.
Opened a shop in Narita International Airport.
1981 AMITA Co., Ltd. was designated as the official trader on the production with the logo for International Association of Lions Club.
1982 New Metalwork manufacturing established in Kisshouin, the south part of Kyoto city. The Takano manufactory closed.
On the 50th year anniversary of business, Shintaro Amita was appointed as the chairman of the board and Kunihiko Amita was appointed as the president.
1984 Opened a jewelry store in Hotel Pacific Tokyo (Current SHINAGAWA GOOS).
1985 AMITA Co., Ltd. participated in '85 KYOTO and The International Exposition Tsukuba Japan 1985 and performed damascene products making.
1987 Current East building of Kyoto Handicraft Center was build and started business for Japanese tourists with restaurant and souvenir shop.
Opened a shop in Narita Holliday Inn(Current NARITA TOBU Hotel in Narita city Chiba)
The jewelry store in Hotel Pacific Tokyo (Current SHINAGAWA GOOS) was renewed.
1989 Participated in Nara Silk Road Exposition.
1990 Amity Plaza Co., Ltd. renamed to Amita Inpex Co., Ltd. and took over the trading business.
Shintaro Amita, the founder of Amita Co., Ltd. passed away.
1991 Changed to new corporate logo on AMITA Co., Ltd.
Stocks of some stores in Tokyo were transferred to Amita Inpex Co., Ltd.
1993 Damascene Workshop Co., Ltd. was established to make damascene department independent.
Stocks of some store in Kyoto, Osaka and Nagoya area were transferred to Amita Inpex Co., Ltd.
Amita Inpex Co., Ltd. increased it's capital and became the subsidiary of AMITA Co., Ltd.
1994 Opened a store in Kansai International Airport in Izumisano city, Osaka.
AMITA Co., Ltd started an agent for import business on watches from Switzerland.
1995 Some businesses transferred to Amita Inpex were returned to AMITA Co., Ltd.
Main store of AMITA was built in Shogoin, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto city.(Current East Building of Kyoto Handicraft Center)
1999 The store in Narita International Airport was renovated.
2003 Tomokuni Amita was appointed as the president of AMITA Co., Ltd.
2004 The store in Kansai International Airport was renovated.
2005 Production department was divided and merged with Damascene Workshop Co., Ltd. Later renamed as Amita MCF Co., Ltd.
Kunihiko Amita was appointed as the first president of Amita MCF Co., Ltd.
2006 Opened a workshop cafe and Craftsmen's Workshop EN-YA(EN=fate, YA=house/place)
2008 The store in New Miyako Hotel was renovated and opened as Kyoto Craft Mart New Miyako Hotel store.
AMITA Co., Ltd started the import business agent with wize & ope(France)and a.b.art(Switerland).
2010 Tomokuni Amita was appointed as the president of Amita MCF Co., Ltd.
The store in Narita International Airport renovated and opened as Kyoto Craft Mart.
2011 The store in Tobu Hotel Airport renovated and opened as Kyoto Craft Mart.
2012 The store in Kansai International Airport renovated and opened as Kyoto Craft Mart.
Main store of AMITA was renamed as Kyoto Handicraft Center East building.
2013 Kyoto Craft Mart Westin Miyako Hotel Kyoto store opened in Westin Miyako Hotel.
